Mashallah Shamsolvaezin editor in chief of a number of banned reformist Iranian newspapers reported in his Facebook page that he has been given a trial date for the charge of “propaganda against the regime.”

He writes that his charges are linked to a speech he delivered in Cape Town, South Africa for receiving the International Press Institute’s World Press Freedom Hero for 2014 in April.

Shamsolvaezin has served as editor in chief of several reformist newspapers such as Toos, Neshat and Asre Azadegan and has been arrested on several occasions for his press activities.

In recent years Iranian authorities have cracked down on many journalists citing the charge of “propaganda against the regime.”

During his speech Shamsolvaezin referred to the many journalists currently in jail in Iran urging the government to respect press freedom.
