Iranian political activist Emad Bahavar was released on Thursday December 18 after serving five years in jail for his support of reformist leaders MirHosein Mousavi and Mohammad Khatami.
Bahavar was sentenced to 10 years in jail in the preliminary court but his sentenced was reduced in the appeals court. Bahavar was only given five days of furlough throughout his five-year term.
Meanwhile, women’s rights activist Mehdieh Golrou, who was arrested after she took part in protests against acid-throwing attacks on the women of Isfahan, remains in jail without any formal charges brought against her.
Golrou was also arrested in 2009 for her participation in the election protests and spent two and a half years in jail.
