Mehdieh Golrou, the Iranian student and women’s rights activist currently jailed in Evin Prison, has refused to accept any belongings from her family and demanded her release.

Golrou, who had been held in the 2-Aleph ward of Evin Prison, was moved to a general ward in December, and the prison authorities informed her family that they could now bring her some of her necessary belongings.

According to Daneshjoo News, Golrou has refused to accept any of the items and stressed that her only demand is to have her freedom.

Golrou, who had already served a 2½-year prison sentence ending in May of 2012, was arrested in November of 2014, after she participated in street protests in support of women who had been assaulted with acid on the streets of Isfahan.

She was arrested after arriving at her home after the protest, and her home was raided and some personal belongings were confiscated.

After 65 days in custody without any specific charges laid against her, her arrest warrant was renewed some days ago for another month.

While no formal charges have been laid against her, the Tehran Prosecutor has said her charges are security related.
