Corruption sentence reduced for former vice president

The Supreme Court has sentenced former vice president, Mohammadreza Rahimi to five years in prison for corruption.

IRNA reports that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s vice president initially had been sentenced in court to 15 years in jail in addition to a fine of 2.85 billion toumans, and the matter was appealed to the Supreme Court. The prison term was reduced by order of the Supreme Court to five years and the fine was confirmed.

The order of the Supreme Court cannot be appealed and must be executed.

Rahimi was charged with corruption in a matter involving Iran Insurance and the Tehran Governor’s office. The Iranian judiciary has announced that all the individuals involved in the financial fraud have been arrested and it attested to the former vice president’s involvement in the corruption case.
