Solamz Ikdar, the Iranian journalist and children’s rights activist, was arrested on Monday June 15 after complying with a summons to appear in court.

Ikdar works for the Farhikhtegan daily and also has a history of journalistic activities with the Shargh and Bahar dailies.

Ikdar was arrested four years ago at the funeral of Hoda Saber, a prominent political prisoner who passed away in jail. She also had an earlier arrest for taking part in a memorial service at Khavaran Cemetery for political prisoners who were executed in the 1980s.

She was also one of 101 journalists who signed a letter condemning the exile of Ahmad Zeiabadi, a journalist who was sent away upon serving his prison term.

Hardline media have often accused Ikdar of having links to “seditious elements”, which is how Islamic Republic hardliners refer to supporters of the Green Movement who took part in the election protests of 2009.
