October 2016 report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran:

,Ahmad Shaheed, UN’s special correspondence on human rights issues in Iran, has published his report for the period between 1/1/2016 till now. With the completion of Mr Shaheed’s assignment, Aseme Jahangir, human rights activist from Pakistan will be the UN’s special correspondence on human rights in Iran.

According to Majzooban Noor, yesterday Ahmad Shaheed UN’s special reporter on human rights in Iran has published his sixth report on the condition of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran following the UN’s Council’s statement 31/19. Mr Shaheed emphasized in his report that he has sent letters to Iranian authorities 23 times about the condition of human rights in Iran.

In Mr.Shaheed’s report, with a special focus on the execution challenge in Iran especially those convicted of narcotic crimes he emphasized that during this period there were 241 to 253 executions in Iran. Other reported issues with statistical analysis have been judicial and national security approach towards journalists, citizens with dual citizenships, social and political activists, freedom of opinion and speech, freedom of association and assembly, women and children’s rights, and religious and tribal minority rights.

In this report this report infringement on Nematollahi Gonabadi dervishes rights has been mentioned. According to this report other Muslims following various minority paths including Nematollahi Gonabadi dervishes and the order of Yarsan have been facing a wide range of human rights infringements such as attacks on the prayer houses, demolition of cemeteries, arrest and torture of the community leaders.
Ahmad Shaheed, the former Maldives Foreign Affairs minister was appointed as a special correspondence in Iran by the United Nations.
