For years the followers of Nematollahi-Gonabadi Sufi Muslims have been suffering quietly at the hands of the Iranian government. For the past two and half decades they have endured the most brutal and indignant treatment by the government.
What exacerbates the situation is that the atrocities against the followers of Nematollahi-Gonabadi Sufi order have constantly been unnoticed and/or ignored by the international community and other Muslim organizations around the world.
The wave of assaults against peaceful and respected Sufi Muslim in Iran was first escalated on February 15, 2006. Then, the security forces used their brutal tactics and with the help of Hezbollah (supporters of the government)
seized demolished and burnt to the ground their Hosseinieh (place of gathering and prayer) in the city of Qom, Iran. Later on November 11, 2007, the security forces have once again reached its peak against Sufi Muslims, this time, in the City of Boroujerd, Iran. They rampaged, burnt (by throwing Molotov *****tail) and finally bulldozed their Hosseinieh.
The latest news from Iran indicates that the securities forces have once again are setting the stage for attacking and demolishing another Hosseinieh, in Karaj, Iran. This Hosseinieh is one of the largest places of gathering for Sufi
followers, and is also the home of one of the Sufi Masters, Mr. Mardani. The repression by the authorities is coming amid about what appears to be increasing demonization of the Sufi Muslims in Iran.
We appeal to the international community, especially organizations such as the International Court of Justice, Amnesty International, and the Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights to take notice of this struggle to protect our most basic human rights, and realize the urgency of the situation of Nematollahi-Gonabadi Sufis in Iran.
