Ali Akbar Javanfekr, the head of the state newspaper Iran, has been found “guilty” by the Press Jury.

On Sunday, the Iranian Press Jury told Mehr News Agency: “Ali Akbar Javanfekr, the director of the daily newspaper Iran, has been found guilty of publishing material against Islamic principles in the Khatoon special issue.”

The Press Jury was unanimous in its judgment that Javanfekr was guilty of “contempt and insult to the female gender.”

In a special August 1st issue titled Khatoon, Iran newspaper published a series of articles about Islamic attire [hijab] and the place of women in Islam.

Several conservative figures spoke out against articles that were critical of forcing restrictive clothing rules on women. Some articles were also critical of deploying morality police on city streets.

Tehran Prosecutor Abbas Jaffari Dowlatabadi charged Javanfekr with “hurting public mores and morality.”

Javanfekr defended the Khatoon special issue, describing the actions against him as “the disdainful and invidious actions of a political current pretending to be Principalists” based on “lies and the fabrication of laws.”
