February 8th, 2012  [Kaleme]  63 years old political prisoner Abolfazl Ghadyani, in dire physical condition has reportedly been transferred to the Cardio Care Unit at Modares Hospital in Tehran.

Kaleme reports that although Ghadyani who suffers from a heart condition was in dire physical condition in the past few days, prison officials nevertheless refused to provide him with medical care.

In addition to his heart condition, 63 year old Ghadyani suffers from acute hyperthyroidism and a prostate condition and has recently lost a significant amount of weight.

Not long ago, Ghadyani was summoned yet again to the 4th branch at Evin court in response to his latest letter regarding boycotting the upcoming illegal parliamentary elections and the Supreme Leader’s role and responsibility vis-a-vis the current conditions in Iran.   This is the 3rd case against Ghadyani and despite the fact that his one year sentence was completed in December 2011, he nevertheless continues behind bars at Evin prison.

Shortly before the completion of his one year sentence, Ghadyani was summoned to the 15th branch of the Revolutionary Court on charges of insulting the Supreme Leader and propaganda against the regime.  Ghadyani refused however to appear in a court that took place behind closed doors and in the absence of a jury, calling the trial illegal and illegitimate.

Ghadyani’s transfer from prison to the 4th branch of Evin court shocked even the interrogator who stated that in accordance to the law he should not be behind bars, given that the 3 year sentence rendered by the 15th branch of the Revolutionary Court has not yet been upheld by the appeals court.

Abolfazl Ghadyani is one of the oldest prisoners behind bars at Evin’s ward 350.  In his latest open letter from prison, he declare the upcoming 9th parliamentary elections as illegitimate and vowed to boycott the elections.   As a result of the publication of his letter, pressure on Ghadyani a veteran political prisoner both before and after the Islamic Revolution increased substantially.
