Political prisoner Houshang Rezaei, who had recently been transferred to Rejaei Shahr prison from Evin prison, has been sentenced to death by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran.
Houshang Rezaei was arrested spring of 2010 in western Iran and was transferred to Intelligence Ministry’s Ward 209 in Evin prison.
Houshang Rezaei was sentenced to death in Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court presided by Judge Moghayeseh after a trial that lasted only few minutes. He was convicted on charges of Moharebeh (enmity against God) through cooperation and connection with a banned Kurdish political party.
Houshang Rezaei was verbally informed of his death sentence in recent days in Rejaei Shahr prison.
This political prisoner has been denied in-person visits with his family or access to a lawyer for the last two years. His parents live in another city and are not able to come to Tehran for weekly visits due to their old age.
Rezaei has been suffering with teeth and gum problems for the past two years, but proper treatment has not be provided by prison officials.
Rezaei’s cousin was also arrested and sentenced to one year in prison on charges of giving refuge to him. He is currently imprisoned in Ward 350 of Evin prison.
During recent weeks four political prisoners were sentenced to death by the Iranian Judiciary.
Gholamreza Khosravi (sentenced to death by the Supreme Court) and Sirvan Nezhavi and Ebrahim Issapour (sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in Mahabad (W.Iran)) are the other three political prisoners that have been given a death sentence.
