Up to 600 rural areas in various regions of Iran are facing critical water shortages.

The Tasnim News Agency reports that Sattar Farhadi, the head of Charmahal Bakhtiyari Province, reported today that residents in 250 villages in the province are struggling with a severe water shortage.

He reported that water is being delivered by tankers to these villages, and with the rising heat during summer, more villages may need similar services.

Gilan officials have also reported water shortages in 240 villages, while Yazd Province has also issued reports of water shortages hitting 100 villages in the municipality of Taft.

Officials have warned that water may need to be rationed in order to regulate excessive consumption in urban areas.
