MP foresees non-approval for one-fifth of Rohani’s cabinet choices

Conservative MP Ruhollah Hosseinian says 20 percent of the new president’s proposed cabinet members will not be approved by Parliament.

In an interview with ISNA, Hosseinian said “failure to distance themselves from the sedition” of 2009 is the main reason that some of the proposed minsters will not get Parliament’s vote of confidence.

The Islamic Republic establishment refers to the election protests of 2009 and the allegations of vote fraud as “sedition.” Reformists mostly supported the allegations of fraud put forth by the two reformist candidates, MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi. The conservative factions and especially Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei sidelined many reformist figures for their support of the protests.

Hassan Rohani, a moderate figure, was hoisted to power with the support of top reformist figures and sweeping support from the poeple but he is finding great resistance in reintroducing reformists into the political arena.
