Following the denial of medical furlough for his son, Hossein Ronaghi’s father Ahmad Ronaghi is requesting help from UN Special Rapporteur, Ahmed Shaheed and the authorities in obtaining medical furlough for his son.
According to the Human Rights News Agency, finally, on Tuesday September 10, Tehran’s Prosecutor General announced that he will not grant medical furlough to imprisoned blogger Hossein Ronaghi.
A source close to Hossein Ronaghi’s family told HRANA that, “On September 3, when Hossein was briefly hospitalized he told his father that the interrogators have told him that he has to cooperate with them before they allow furlough, otherwise they will keep him in prison until he dies.”
The source added, “Today Tuesday, September 10, Hossein Ronaghi’s father said that he had not revealed this information before hoping that his son would be granted medical furlough, but with the denial of furlough, and with his son’s life in danger, he is now forced to reveal this information.”
The source further stated that, “He also addressed all of the Islamic Republic’s officials and said that Hossein’s life has been put in danger by the interrogators. He requested that Mr. Ahmed Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur urgently address this issue. He also stressed that he has requested assistance from the Islamic Republic’s officials but has not received a favorable response.”
Hossein Ronaghi was initially arrested December 2009. He was tried by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
