Jafar Tofighi, the interim head of Iran’s Ministry Science, has announced that a review of the cases of a number of suspended or expelled university students has resulted in their return to their studies.

The Mehr News Agency reports that Tofighi stressed once again that the ministry will no longer single out and target students for their political and personal beliefs.

During the administration of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the term “starred students” was coined, referring to students who were deemed to have “unacceptable” political activities or beliefs. These students were often suspended or expelled from university and not allowed to continue their studies.

Tofighi has stressed that there will be no “starred students” under the new administration.
