Iran’s Ministry of Communications and IT announced that it is developing a system to overhaul internet filtering in the country.

Mahmoud Vaezi, the Minister of Communications and IT, told the Fars news agency: “Three groups are now working on creating a system of filtering aimed at inappropriate content as opposed to everything on a site.”

Vaezi added: “This is a complex task and is engaging the input of three groups.”

The minister stated that the results of their efforts will be announced as soon as they complete their task.

Many websites, especially social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, are blocked by the Iranian government, and users in Iran can only access them by using proxies.
