The head of the Abadan Refinery Union of Contract Workers has announced that three contracting companies at the international port of Mahshahr have failed to pay their workers for over three months.
Siamak Melk told ILNA that the three companies have more than 30 workers each, and none has been paid in the past three months.
Melk added that in addition to withholding wages, the employers have failed to provide workers with necessary benefits, uniforms and safety hats on time.
These delays during severe weather conditions have reportedly caused workplace health problems that are costing workers more than they can afford.
Many workers in various sectors of the Iranian economy have been faced with the delayed payment of their wages in the past years as the effects of sanctions and mismanagement of the economy continue to spiral out of control.
