Iranian journalist Serajeddin Mirdamadi stood trial on Wednesday January 8 in a Revolutionary Court in Tehran for “propaganda activities against the regime” and “collusion against national security.”

Giti Pourfazel, Mirdamadi’s lawyer, told IRNA that the Revolutionary Court has no jurisdiction to decide Mirdamadi’s case because charges involving the press should be heard in the provincial court in the presence of the press jury.

Pourfazel reported that interviews and articles published by Mirdamadi are being used as evidence against him in this case. She also added that he could face anywhere from three months to a year in prison for these charges.

Serajeddin Mirdamadihas worked with newspapers such as Islam, Toos, Hayat-e No, all which were closed down by the government. He has also collaborated with Radio Zamaneh.

Mirdamadi returned to Iran with his wife from Paris after last summer’s presidential election. Upon their arrival in Tehran, the couple’s passports were confiscated by the authorities.
