Mohabat News, an independent Iranian Christian website, says the regime’s attempts to stop the growth of Christianity in the country have reached new heights. More and more converts are being arrested and churches are under pressure to reduce their congregations.

St. Peter’s Church in Tehran reports that many Iranians who have converted to Christianity from Islam are unable to pray there, after the government banned Farsi speakers from attending the few remaining churches in the capital.

“The churches in Iran are under immense pressure from the government to suspend almost all religious services conducted in Farsi. This is a clear attempt by the authorities to stop the growth in the number of people who convert to Christianity in Iran”, read a statement from St. Peter’s.

Traditionally most Iranian Christians belong to the minority Armenian and Assyrian communities. However many new converts do not speak their languages, so churches are printing copies of the Bible in Farsi. The government has prohibited their distribution.
