Gonabadi Dervishes Get Trial After 10 Months in Jail

Four detained Gonabadi Dervishes have finally been given a trial after spending 10 months in Shiraz’s Adel-Abad prison.

The Majzooban Noor website reports that on Thursday morning 24th of Bahman 1392 (February 13, 2014), Messrs. Mohsen Esmaeeli, Seyed Ebrahim Bahrami, Mohammad Ali Sadeghi and Mohammad Ali Dehghan stood trial for the charges of “forming a terrorist group against the regime, participating in seditious gatherings, enmity against God and carrying weapons.” They have been in temporary detention for 10 months as the trial judge has extended their detention period for the fourth time.

The court hearing presided over by Judge Yazdanian was held in Shiraz’s Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court with the presence of their lawyers, Mr. Harsini, Nazari, Sadeghi, Montazeri and Yadollahi.

The report indicates that the defence attorney’s attempts to secure discovery and access to all the state’s evidence were not successful.

It is notable that, a group of Gonabadi Dervishes gathered in front of the court during the trial
to support and express solidarity with their imprisoned brothers.
The mentioned Dervishes were arrested in the city of Kavar on 10 Ordibehesht 1392 (April 30 2013) after the attacks against Nematollahi Gonabadi Dervishes in Kavar by men posing as Basijis and religious extremists on 13 , Shahrivar 1390 (September 4, 2011). Although they are deprived of the minimum rights for prisoners that are included in Iran’s constitution. As currently, they have remained in detention illegally for more than 10 months.
