Iranian president’s chief advisor in ethnic and religious minority affairs Ali Younesi said in a press conference on May 3 that there has been a historical oppression of women in the country and the Iranian administration and legislation is patriarchal.
ISNA reports that Younesi who was speaking at the end of his two day trip to Shiraz said: “Many of these taboos have been broken in Sistan-Baluchistan and a position of governorship has been given to a women and a Sunni.”
He stressed that many who oppose appointment of women to these top leadership positions have personal issues which they need to resolve for themselves.
He reminded that women in leadership positions have delivered services with a healthier report card.
