Saeed Mortazavi and Ali Akbar Heydarifar, two of the judiciary officials linked to the torture and death of detainees in Kahrizak Prison in 2009 have been summoned to court once again because of renewed complaints filed by Abdolhossein Ruholamini, father of Mohsen Ruholamini, one of the victims.

ISNA reports that according to Ali Akbar Heydarifar, he and Saeed Mortazavi, former Tehran prosecutor, have been summoned to court for the charge of accessory to murder.

Heydarifar insisted that the charge is frivolous because the court has found no evidence to uphold it in the past.

Heydarifar and Mortazavi were alleged to be responsible for transferring detainees to Kahrizak Prison with complete knowledge that they would be subjected to torture and abuse. Three of the detainees that were transferred to Kahrizak in 2009 were killed under torture and the prison was shut down after the news of the deaths surfaced.

Mortazavi and Heydarifar have been banned from the judiciary for life and also banned from holding any public service position for five years. Mortazavi has also been given a 200,000-toumans fine.

The families of the victims regard these sentences as a mere slap on the wrist for those they regard as truly responsible for their children’s deaths.
