Yukiya Amano, the head of the UN nuclear watchdog, has called for a larger budget to continue monitoring Iran’s nuclear activities, now that Iran and the 5+1 have extended their nuclear negotiations until July 1, 2015.

Unofficial reports indicate that Amano is going to request a budget of $5 million from the board of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The board is set to meet next Tuesday, December 9.

Ever since an interim agreement was reached between Iran and the 5+1, the IAEA has been charged with monitoring Iran’s compliance with certain concessions regarding its nuclear activities. The parties were supposed to reach a final and comprehensive agreement in July of 2014, which was then extended to November 24, and last week the deadline was extended once more to July of next year.
