Chief of the Iranian Judiciary’s Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani complained about the Islamic logic’s exclusion from the international documents on human rights.
The world needs a worldwide idea on human rights by taking into account the diverse cultures, Larijani said on Monday, addressing an international conference on the negative impacts of economic sanctions on the world states held in Tehran.
“We should not be influenced by the secular thoughts. We respect them, and they should in turn respect our thoughts and beliefs,” he said of the conflicting views between the Islamic teachings and the secular ideologies.
Larijani also made a reference to certain countries’ resort to sanctions as a leverage against other states, and said, “Sanctions jeopardize the human beings’ right to life.”
“The US-imposed sanctions were to bring Iran to its knees, however, Iran weathered the sanctions and we continue to progress rapidly,” he stressed.
The two-day conference in Tehran, organized by the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), studies the legal basis of sanctions and their negative impacts on the development of world states.
The conference will also call on the United Nations Human Rights Council to develop a mechanism for monitoring sanctions imposed against UN member states.
