Political prisoner Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, who has been on a hunger strike for 20 days in Karaj’s Rejaishahr Prison, was transferred to the infirmary after losing consciousness on Monday December 22.
Ebrahimzadeh began his hunger strike to protest his transfer to the non-political prisoners ward, the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports.
Reports indicate that his health remains in grave condition despite his return to the prison ward.
A labour activist, Ebrahimzadeh is sentenced to five years in jail for “assembly and collusion against the regime” and is in the fourth year of his sentence. He was sentenced to 20 years in jail at his preliminary hearing but his sentence was reduced to five years in the appeals court.
Reports indicate that one method used to pressure political prisoners is to transfer them to the non-political wings of a prison.
