Pressure on Incarcerated Lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh & Her Family Increases | Her Sister Giti Now Denied All Visitation Rights

The pressure by prison authorities and security officials on Nasrin Sotoudeh, incarcerated human rights lawyer and her family is mounting on a daily basis. A few weeks ago, her husband, two children and sister were detained for several hours when arriving for their customary visitation, an act that has resulted in Sotoudeh boycotting all visitation with her family for the past three weeks.

Upon arriving at Evin prison yesterday [Sunday August 28th, 2011] for their weekly visitation with Nasrin, her family faced yet another restriction.  Prison officials informed Giti Sotoudeh, Nasrin Sotoudeh’s sister, also a lawyer, that she is no longer allowed to visit with her sister.  This new restriction was imposed despite the fact that political prisoners have the right to unrestricted visitation with all immediate family members under Iranian law.

According to Nasrin Sotoudeh’s Family, despite the fact that Dr. Giti Sotoudeh has never been politically active, prison authorities at Evin have announced that as per the orders of the head of the prosecutor’s office at Evin she is no longer allowed visitation rights with her sister.   Sotoudeh’s family believe that this new wave of restrictions is only designed to impose even more pressure on Nasrin Sotoudeh and her family.
