Iran’s labour minister says women’s rights in the workplace are not being fully observed and they are now being hired at lower wages compared to men.

IRNA reports that Ali Rabii said on Saturday February 7: “Making cooperatives in towns and townships active could be a positive move in promoting the economic and social participation of women.”

The president’s economic adviser, Massoud Nili, has stressed that women’s participation in industry is very low, despite the fact that their participation in the higher education system is on the rise.

The Rohani administration has been trying hard to counteract the obstacles to women’s participation in the economic, social and political life of the country; however, Islamic Republic hardliners have been hard at work resisting their efforts.
