A senior member of the National Trust Party reports that some action is being taken toward the release of party leader Mehdi Karroubi and he expressed great hopes that it will be fruitful.

Karroubi, a presidential candidate in the 2009 election, challenged the election result along with fellow candidate MirHosein Mousavi. Both candidates have been under house arrest since 2011 for refusing to recognize the legitimacy of the election outcome.

Karroubi has been under house arrest for more than 870 days without any official charges brought up against him.

It is said that the Supreme Leader himself is overseeing the detained candidates’ situation.

The senior party member said their leader’s situation will soon be resolved and the party will resume its regular activities.
