The Members of International Organisation to Preserve Human Rights in Iran gathered in Stockholm to demand the freedom of Sufi political prisoners in Iran, and to stop the persecution of Sufis and other religious minorities in Iran. This action was in response to the recent increased pressure by the extremist Iranian regime against the Sufis in Iran, in which the leader of Gonabadi Dervishes was harassed and their medical charity was forced to close. Over the last few weeks Sufi prisoners of conscience have been refused medical treatment, and were forced to leave their hometowns under the sentence of exile.
In the protests the members of IOPHRI expressed their dissatisfaction with the oppressive elements in the regime through shouting slogans in support of Sufis and other religious minorities, as well as through playing Dafs, Persian percussion instruments.
